Measuring Improved Grass Utilization in Mixed Beef and Horse Farming
Mixed beef and horse farming boosts stocking rates and grazing efficiency compared to specialized systems
or
Detail description
Mixed beef and horse farming systems in the Massif Central show significantly higher stocking rates than specialized horse systems, with average SUA 3.5 times greater and grazing pressure (1.20 UG/ha SFP) exceeding specialized systems (0.93 UG/ha SFP). Data from 21 saddle horse breeders, primarily at altitudes below 600 m, indicate substantial variation in grazing management practices and species integration across farms.
