Allder (Alnus glutinosa) on semi-natural grasslands with cattle grazing and mechanical clearing

Detail description

Intakän is a family-run farm in Västergötland, Sweden, spanning 300 hectares with 200 ha arable land and 100 ha natural pasture. It hosts 135 dairy cows and 200 young cattle, with rotational grazing across 10–15 groups and 3–4 calving areas. The farm maintains open grassland to prevent forest encroachment, using manual clearing with brush harrows or tractors due to wet, rocky terrain limiting machinery. Invasive species like meadow grass are a major challenge, requiring annual treatment. EU funding supports sustainable grazing, and cattle are selected for grazing suitability. The farm is featured in a lantbrukarintervju on YouTube.
