Trial of cattail cultivation in the De Hegewarren peat meadow polder: Bio-based Production Line Pilot Project

Trials are being carried out here using common reed as a wet-cultivated crop to produce bio-based building materials. This is because groundwater levels in peatland areas need to be raised, but the farmers working there will then need a new revenue model rather than, for example, dairy farming. Cattail may be a lucrative alternative in wet peatlands.
