Agroforestry in Zeeland: Design for Open Landscapes

Agroforestry systems for Zeeland's diverse landscapes: ecological, agricultural, and economic integration

or

Detail description

Agroforestry integration in Zeeland’s open landscapes: three landscape types—creek ridge densification, wide polder landscapes, and dune outcrop woodlands—are examined for sustainable agroforestry systems. Systems include hazelnut-arable windbreaks and low-stem fruit-arable strips, enhancing biodiversity, wind protection, and long-term income. Designed for sandy and clay soils, these models support ecological resilience and niche market opportunities. Visualisations illustrate applications across Walcheren, Zuid-Beveland, and dune-edge zones. Based on regional studies and guidance from Wageningen Research and WUR, the approach promotes collaboration between arable and fruit farmers, aligning productivity with landscape and ecological values.
