Beweidingsbeheer van grasland en vochtig weidevogelgrasland (N12.02, N13.01)

Grazing maintains grassland and wet meadow habitats through natural fertilisation and structural diversity

or

Detail description

Grassland and wet meadow bird grassland (N12.02, N13.01) are maintained through grazing, which opens vegetation and supplies fertilisation, promoting grass and herb growth. Stocking density, animal species, and grazing type determine open space and nutrient levels. Cattle and sheep grazing create structural diversity and support species richness. Seed germination occurs in soil gaps formed by trampling, aided by peat in natural soils. Dung supports soil organisms, including juvenile earthworms, and attracts beetles and flies, which feed birds and mammals. Reduced machinery use preserves soil health. Data on earthworms under and away from dung pats are collected for sandy and peat soils.
