Field trials on plot drainage in Flevoland 2021–2024: The role of small pits in water retention

Field trials alternating with the use of a pit roller on light loam in the Noordoostpolder and heavy loam in Oostelijk Flevoland (2021–2024). Objective: to determine leaching, the influence of various factors, and the effectiveness and applicability of measures. The results led to three factsheets: settling and infiltration pits, the pit roller, and the tilling tine. The pit roller, also known as the ‘waffle-style’ roller, has been developed with five independently adjustable tines that loosen the soil and form pits. Water is retained in these pits, which reduces leaching. Suitable for use after harvest. Alternated with a control plot. Measuring equipment: flow meter for continuous flow measurement.
