Extending grazing season through soil and infrastructure improvements

Enhancing soil fertility and grazing efficiency through clover integration and infrastructure upgrades

or

Detail description

70-hectare farm in Kilcogy, County Cavan, managed by Killian Brennan and family, with a 34ha milking platform of 113 cows and 20ha support block for rearing young stock. The farm enhances soil fertility through strategic clover integration—white clover for grazing, red clover for silage—and improves access with upgraded, cambered roadways and astroturf in high-traffic zones. Multiple paddock access points extend the grazing season. The farm prioritises nutrient cycling and sustainable practices, supported by Teagasc and funded by the European Union.
