Green Biorefinery for Grass Valorisation in Ireland

A mobile grass biorefinery project in Southwest Ireland demonstrates sustainable valorisation of surplus grass, converting 2 tonnes of fresh grass per hour into cattle fodder, protein feed, prebiotic sugars, and fertilisers. Funded by EIP-AGRI, it enhances resource efficiency, reduces nitrogen emissions by 25%, increases protein yield by 40% per hectare, and supports rural employment. The initiative advances Ireland’s circular bioeconomy and offers a scalable model for small-scale green biorefining.
