Transferring Green Manure Biomass Under Vine Rows for Mulching
This practice enhances soil fertility and suppresses weeds through mowed green manure biomass transferred under vine rows.
or
Detail description
Using inter-row green manure biomass as mulch under vine rows improves soil organic matter and fertility, but provides limited long-term weed control due to rapid decomposition and uneven coverage. Pre-weeding and proper equipment are essential. Species with upright stems enhance distribution; vetch caused clogging. Delayed termination after lignification could improve cover but risks competition with vines in spring. The practice is simple but currently ineffective for sustained weed suppression. Funded by Horizon 2020 (Grant No 10160591).
