Mulching in Vineyards: Soil Management and Challenges

Mulching prevents weed growth in vineyards using thin barriers like plastic films or thick layers of organic materials such as wood chips, straw, or bark. It reduces labor, especially on slopes, and improves soil stability and landscape appearance. However, it limits soil access, requiring optimal soil preparation and nutrient balancing in advance. Organic mulches decompose, consuming nitrogen and needing replenishment. Fire risk increases in dry conditions, demanding preventive measures. Effective but costly, especially with high material volumes and rising demand for wood residues.
