Nutrient Recommendations for Productive Crops in Ireland

Optimizing crop nutrition using yield targets, soil tests, and environmental compliance across Irish agriculture

Detail description

This system provides science-based nutrient recommendations for wheat, maize, potatoes, vegetables, and other crops across Ireland, using target yields and soil test results. It calculates total N, P, K, S, Ca, Mg, and micronutrient requirements, accounting for organic manures via book or lab values. Recommendations include precise application rates and timings across the growing season, aligned with environmental regulations. Soil testing for P and K is conducted every 3–4 years using Morgan’s method; N is estimated using soil organic matter, total N, and LOI or Kjeldahl methods. In-season needs are adjusted for expected yields using standard crop nutrient content. The system supports crop-specific and rotation-based approaches, with split applications for N, P, and K where appropriate. It includes placement guidance and ammonia mitigation through precision application and incorporation. Available via the Teagasc website.
