Irrigation Precision Strategies for Water Efficiency
Optimising irrigation efficiency through water balance and sensor technology in Basilicata
or
Detail description
The TRAS.IRRI.MA. project in Basilicata enhances irrigation efficiency in precision agriculture by integrating water balance models and proximity sensors. It focuses on optimizing water use through drip and micro-sprinkler systems, applying the ETc = ETo × Kc formula, and maintaining soil moisture at 30–40% of available water. The project addresses water deficits in areas like Metapantina (500 mm annual rainfall) with tailored irrigation protocols. Case studies in Agro di Bernaledda show a kiwi orchard with 95.7% system efficiency, 60 cm emitter spacing, and 5,000 plants/ha, delivering 1,557 L/ha/h. For 2020, theoretical and actual irrigation volumes were compared, achieving water savings via optimized phytosanitary practices.
