Detail description

France's rural bioeconomy drives 18% of EU agricultural output across 28 million hectares, supporting 2 million direct jobs in agriculture, agro-industry, forestry, and fisheries. With 17 million hectares of woodland and 3.3 million forest owners, the forest-wood sector contributes 440,000 jobs. The agri-food industry generates €169 billion in revenue with 16,200 firms and 435,000 employees. Fisheries and aquaculture involve 3,300 firms, 7,200 vessels, and 37,000 workers. Over 100,000 new jobs have emerged in bio-based innovation, including plant-based chemistry, biofuels, and sustainable materials. A national strategy launched in 2015 promotes market uptake, sustainable resource use, innovation, and public engagement.
