Danish Bioeconomy: Jobs, Value, and Transition to Circular Models

Bioeconomy in Denmark: sectors, employment, and sustainable transition

or

Detail description

The Danish bioeconomy sector includes food and agriculture, forestry, water, bioenergy, and biomaterials, employing 166,300 people and contributing €17.4 billion in added value. Bio-based chemicals, pharmaceuticals, plastics, and rubber (excluding biofuels) account for €6.1 billion in value. Agriculture and food sectors employ 72% of bioeconomy workers—around 60,000 in agriculture and 59,000 in food industries—while bio-based chemicals and related industries employ 20,000 people. Efforts are underway to shift from linear to circular, sustainable production models, reducing imports of environmentally harmful feed and expanding domestic, sustainable alternatives.
