The Latvian bioeconomy spans five sectors: food and agriculture, forestry and wood production, bioenergy and biomaterials, and fishing and aquaculture. In 2020, it contributed €2.8 billion in added value and employed 124,600 people. Forestry and wood production was the largest sector, with €1.3 billion in value added (46.3%) and 45.96 thousand employees. Food and agriculture contributed €1.2 billion, with 69.62 thousand employees. Latvia ranks 4th in Europe for forest area per person and 2nd for agricultural land per person.
