Northern Apple Ice Cider Innovation in Umeå, Sweden

Pioneering northern Swedish ice cider made from cold-climate apples and traditional cryoconcentration methods

or

Detail description

Brännland Iscider produces premium ice cider in Umeå, Sweden, using cold-climate apples and traditional cryoconcentration methods. Founded in 2010, the company sources 140 tonnes of apples annually from local growers, expanding from 8,000 to 100,000 bottles annually. It is part of the EIP-AGRI Operational Group for climate-resilient apple growing in northern Sweden, involving regional partners and academic institutions. The process follows the Canadian model, with fermentation guided by expert winemakers, and includes oak aging and bottling. Exports reach France, the UK, Spain, and Switzerland. The company also produces mulled apple wine and collaborates with a glass designer. Future goals include expanding cultivation, developing site-specific bottlings, and using wild yeast from local apples.
