Innovative Valorization of Vineyard By-Products for Nutraceuticals and Energy

Innovative valorization of vineyard residues for nutraceuticals and renewable energy through biochar and cogeneration

or

Detail description

This project valorized wine industry by-products by extracting bioactive compounds from grapevine leaves of L. Grasparossa and L. Salamino for nutraceutical use. A mechanized harvesting system was tested in espalier and GDC-trained vineyards. Vine shoots and pomace were baled and pelletized for use in a cogeneration plant (PB20). Biochar from these residues enhanced vineyard performance and improved grape and wine quality without harming plant health. Copper was recovered from biochar for use in downy mildew control. Dissemination included technical meetings, tours, conferences, articles, and the CRPV portal. Agricultural enterprises participated in knowledge transfer sessions. Funded by the European Union.
