AGROSUS: Sustainable Weed Management in European Farming
Advancing agroecological weed management across all European biogeographic regions through stakeholder-driven innovation and sustainable solutions
or
Detail description
The AGROSUS project develops and implements agroecological tools and strategies to prevent and manage weeds across all 11 European biogeographic regions—Alpine, Anatolian, Arctic, Atlantic, Black Sea, Boreal, Continental, Macaronesian, Mediterranean, Pannonian, and Steppe—in conventional, organic, and mixed farming systems. It focuses on reducing synthetic herbicide use, minimizing environmental impact, and enhancing sustainability through co-development with stakeholders. The project targets the most problematic weeds per region and crop, advancing cultural, mechanical, physical, biological, and biotechnological solutions. It also enables technology transfer, training, and policy initiatives, while improving detection tools and knowledge on weed management. Running from June 2023 to May 2027, AGROSUS is funded by the European Union (€4,689,926.25) under Horizon Europe (grant agreement No GA 101038408), with additional support from the Hungarian government (€309,937.50). The project is coordinated by the Universidad de Vigo (UVIGO) in Spain and involves 16 partners from 11 European and associated countries.
