Valorization of Grape-Wine By-Products for Biogas Energy
Enhancing grape-wine by-product valorisation through circular economy and biogas potential
or
Detail description
The UVA PRETIOSA project advances circular economy practices in grape-wine production by valorising by-products. It focuses on extracting valuable components from lees and pomace, with lees showing high biogas potential—yielding ~390 m³ of methane per ton of dry matter—without inhibiting microbial activity. Future work examines logistics, transport efficiency, and optimal water content for tanker transport. Oil extraction from grape seeds is feasible at 300 kg per cycle, requiring rapid drying to 10–12% moisture; ongoing efforts aim to reduce drying time. Funded by the European Union, the project supports innovation and knowledge sharing via EU-FarmBook.
