ProEcoFarm: Sustainable Dairy Cattle Management with IoT

Sustainable dairy cattle management using IoT and virtual fencing in Natura 2000 protected areas

or

Detail description

The ProEcoFarm project at Macina Majewski’s farm and the Zootechnical Station in Dolina Śródkowej Ody, Poland, implements sustainable dairy cattle management under the Natura 2000 programme using IoT and virtual fencing technology. Research covers lactation, zootechnical, ethological, and nutritional parameters, including forage quality, pasture productivity, and soil conditions. Methods include Kappa, Filipka, LAI, PAR AccuPAR, WET sensors, and CM 1000 chlorophyll meters. Meteorological data and milk/meat quality analyses assess cholesterol, vitamins, fatty acids, and minerals. Virtual fencing using GPS, accelerometers, and electronic fences improves pasture use and animal welfare. IoT, machine learning, and real-time monitoring enhance data collection, with ongoing studies on sow seed quality, soil organic matter, thermal conditions, and animal behaviour in relation to pasture quality. Year-round studies in river valleys link forage yield and quality to animal performance across breeds.
