Regenerative dairy farming in Groningen: grass-fed cows, reduced costs, and improved sustainability

or

Detail description

A dairy farm in Leens, Groningen transitioned from organic to regenerative farming, increasing grass yield from 7,500 to 9,500 kg DM/ha, eliminating concentrate feed, halving costs, and boosting milk production to 400,000 kg annually from 75 grass-fed cows. The farm uses strip grazing and the New Zealand ABC system, with robotic milking and improved infrastructure reducing indoor housing to 101 days. The shift enhanced milk quality, environmental sustainability, and cow health, earning Agnes de Boer the 2023 'Best Grassland Farmer' title.
