Forest Landscape Restoration in Shouf Biosphere Reserve, Lebanon

Community-led forest and landscape restoration in Lebanon's Shouf Biosphere Reserve integrating ecological recovery with social and economic resilience

or

Detail description

Restoration of the Shouf Biosphere Reserve in Lebanon through community-led pilot actions integrating ecological recovery and social needs. Efforts include native tree planting, terrace and dry-stone wall restoration, biomass management, and improved nursery practices. These initiatives enhance water retention, reduce soil degradation, and support local livelihoods. High survival rates (75–99%) achieved after 2015 replanting with improved saplings. Strategies informed national forest restoration policies.
