Resilience of forest landscapes through community participation in Oued Zeen, Tunisia

Community-led forest restoration and sustainable management in north-west Tunisia's Sila region

or

Detail description

Preserving and managing forest landscapes in north-west Tunisia through community-led sustainable use of non-timber forest products. Local communities in Oued Zeen and the Sila region participate in reforestation, fire prevention, and conservation efforts under co-management agreements. Supported by the World Bank-funded Integrated Landscape Management Project, these initiatives enhance ecosystem resilience, support socioeconomic development, and protect biodiversity. The initiative grants temporary harvesting rights for products like rosemary, myrtle, pine seeds, mushrooms, and carob pods in exchange for active stewardship, addressing threats from wildfires, illegal logging, and urban expansion.
