Understanding ecological interactions between animals and plants enhances ecosystem restoration effectiveness. DNA analysis of scat reveals seed dispersal patterns, predator-prey dynamics, and food web structure, crucial for conservation. In Lebanon, reforestation has relied on monocultures like cedar and pine, but restoring native species that support seed dispersers improves resilience. A new reference DNA library for Eastern Mediterranean species enables accurate identification of animal and plant DNA in scat, supporting non-invasive monitoring. This tool maps feeding habits, tracks population changes, and guides sustainable restoration by revealing which species sustain ecosystems.
