Agroforestry system in Puig-Reig: combined production of cereals and high-quality timber

A demonstration agroforestry system in Puig-Reig (Barcelona) that combines winter cereals with hybrid walnut trees and ash trees to produce high-quality timber. Established in 2014 on the Can Palot estate, it covers 1.5 ha with rows spaced 18 m apart. It assesses ecosystem services such as carbon sequestration, soil protection, leachate filtration and microclimate improvement. Temperate Mediterranean climate, altitude 470 m, slope 9%. Average diameter growth rate of 0.5 cm/year, rotation rate of 24%. Part of the LIFE AgroForAdapt project.
