Women Innovators in Czech Republic - Farming Fact Sheet #005

Community garden and sustainable farming initiative in the Bohemian Paradise region promoting food sovereignty, biodiversity, and social inclusion

or

Detail description

The Zázemí Association, founded by Ms. Hudská after her organic farm in the Jizera River valley closed due to drought, promotes sustainable agriculture through community gardening, chicken farming, high-stemmed fruit trees, composting, and forest management. It spans 16 hectares of forest and 1 hectare of orchards, supports biodiversity and water retention, strengthens community ties, and includes families with disabled children. The initiative operates under the Community Supported Agriculture model, with five full-time staff and 300 occasional helpers. It expands through workshops, lectures, and outreach in Turnov and plans to extend to schools and Liberec. The project collaborates with regional organisations and the Czech Academy of Sciences, though farmer resistance persists due to short-term economic priorities.
