Detail description
Precision farming makes it possible to reduce the use of water (by 7%), fertilisers and plant protection products in the cultivation of sweetcorn, beans, peas and tomatoes. This has been demonstrated in Emilia-Romagna, Italy, with the support of a decision-support app for farmers, which assesses the nutritional status of plants and provides farm-level maps. This enables farmers to make informed decisions on the quantities of nitrogen to apply to the soil. In addition, a warning system for fungal attacks has been developed, enabling the application of fungicides as and when required. In the context of drought scenarios, the project has also developed plant varieties better suited to the expected climate.
