Women Innovators in Slovenia - Organic School Gardens Initiative

Organic school gardens in Slovenia: from kindergarten to secondary education

or

Detail description

Anamarija Slabe founded a network of organic school gardens across Slovenia, integrating hands-on environmental education into schools from kindergarten to secondary level. Since 2010, the initiative—supported by the Swiss Development Cooperation and later the EU’s EATHINK2015 project—has engaged around 100 schools and kindergartens. The Organic School Gardens Association provides teacher training, promotes collaboration, and shares best practices. Students gain practical knowledge in organic farming, food production, and sustainability, fostering long-term behavioural change. The program has influenced national curricula and is formally recognized in Slovenia’s 2027 Action Plan for Organic Farming.
