Free-stall barn – a new housing system for small dairy farms

A new housing system could soon become widespread in Austria: the free-range barn. The Schlaffer family from Styria are among the few farms that already keep their cows in this type of housing. Step by step, elements of a free-range system have been added to the old tie-stall barn. Today, the cows are only tethered for milking.
