Selection, Testing, and Breeding of Climate-Adapted Tree Rootstocks and Varieties

Selection and testing of climate-adapted street and avenue tree varieties for nursery production. The project, led by three nurseries and two research groups, evaluated pre-selected clones for in vitro cultivation and developed stress tests to assess physiological responses. Results include successful in vitro propagation of 40 clones, with 21 achieving complete protocols, using tailored nutrient media. The project, funded by the EAFRD under EU cohesion policy, produced genetically identical, stress-tolerant trees on their own roots.
