FERTICOOP: reducing ammonia and GHG emissions in livestock farming

Optimising livestock farming through sustainable fertilisation and emission reduction technologies

or

Detail description

The FERTICOOP project, concluded in 2022 and coordinated by FCAC in Barcelona, Spain, reduced ammonia and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in livestock farming through optimised fertilisation, best available techniques (BATs), and improved manure management. It assessed nutrient content, digitalised plot databases, tested rapid soil fertility methods, evaluated biogas production from slurry in flexible ponds, and measured emissions from housing. The project delivered decision-support tools for farmers and technicians based on sustainability criteria, promoting manure valorisation. Funded under the Rural Development Programme 2014–2020 (Regional, Catalunya, Spain; Operational Group 2014ES0DRP009), it had a total budget of €178,959.58, with €55,173.58 from the EU and €73,137.06 from DARP. The initiative advanced sustainable fertilisation and emission reduction in agriculture.
