Declining agricultural activity since the mid-20th century, especially in terraced and rainfed areas of El Bierzo (León, Spain), has led to increased fire risk and reduced ecosystem service delivery. Smallholder land ownership with small average plot sizes (990 m²) hinders effective land management.
