Pasture renovation and chestnut grove utilization in Lozère

Enhancing pasture management and forage autonomy in a mountainous AOP cheese-producing farm in Lozère

or

Detail description

The farm in Lozère (600 m altitude, 81 ha) raises 100 goats for AOP Pérardon cheese, focusing on pasture and forage improvement. Key actions include soil and forage analysis, legume-rich temporary meadows (1.56 ha), mulberry and chestnut orchard renewal, manure and potassium sulfate use, and forage mix trials. Milk yield rose from 384L (2020) to 496L (2021), with feed concentration dropping to 485g/L. Feed autonomy improved from 26% to 35%, forage autonomy from 39% to 48%. The project, co-financed by the EU and Occitanie Region, supports grazing expansion, forage hedges, and sustainable rural development.
