Barn drying and management system optimization
Enhancing goat milk production autonomy and profitability through sustainable forage systems and rural development funding
or
Detail description
Production costs for goat milk rose from €1,237 to €1,507 per 1,000 litres (2018–2021), while total product value increased from €1,002 to €1,217 per 1,000 litres. Gross margin improved by 50% to €643 per 1,000 litres and per goat, driven by 99% forage autonomy, reduced feeding costs, and enhanced commercialisation. Herd size and stocking density decreased, with 4–5 hectares of wheat land repurposed for protein crops. The initiative strengthened decisional autonomy and system resilience, supported by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Occitanie Region’s DynaPess–Midi Méditerranée initiative.
