Reduced Workload and Mixed Crops for Feed Autonomy

Simplifying farm operations through delegation, rotational grazing, and feed autonomy to enhance sustainability and reduce costs

or

Detail description

Dairy farm reduced labor intensity and achieved feed autonomy between 2018 and 2022 through task delegation, rotational grazing, multi-species meadows, and homegrown feed. Milk production costs rose from €1,068 to €2,000 per 1,000 liters due to rising feed and mechanization costs, while output dropped 21.4%. The farm improved efficiency via delayed off-takings, fixed/mobile fencing, and external support for PAC and PPP applications. By 2023, full feed autonomy was reached, enhancing economic resilience. Co-financed by the European Agricultural Development Fund, the project supports rural development and sustainability.
