Producing spring peas in association with cereals for organic grain harvest

Spring peas intercropped with oats or barley in organic systems: weed suppression and yield outcomes in Brittany and Pays de la Loire

or

Detail description

Spring peas grown in organic systems in Brittany and Pays de la Loire benefit from association with cereals like oats or barley. This approach improves weed control, maintains pea yields, and enables dual harvests. Results from 2015–2018 trials show 40–42% reduction in weed biomass at flowering with oats or barley, no significant yield loss in peas, and average oat (15.8 g/m²) or barley (16.4 g/m²) production. Pure peas averaged 14.8 q/ha (max 25.1 q/ha), with high yield variability. Nitrogen content in peas averaged 21.4% at 14% moisture. Recommendations based on Programlive and SECALIBIO data.
