Duroc Boar Selection for Premium Pork Production and Gourmet Meat Quality

This project by GRUP GEPORK and INNOVACC enhanced pork quality through selective breeding and tailored feeding programmes. It focused on Duroc boars and Landrace lines, showing higher fat content and improved organoleptic traits in crosses, especially F1 maternals. A multi-tier feeding system adjusted protein, fatty acids, and antioxidants to boost meat quality and shelf life. Results identified gourmet-quality products based on genetics, feeding, and slaughter parameters. The project, funded by the EU and DARP in Catalonia (2019–2021), delivered practical guidelines for high-value, ethically produced pork, with dissemination via workshops, publications, and a project website.
