Kernza® Perennial Grain Pilot in Barcelona

Kernza® perennial grain project in Catalonia demonstrated sustainable agricultural innovation, achieving successful cultivation and valorisation of Kernza® as a dual-purpose crop for grain and forage. Funded by the Catalan Government and the EU, the project (2020–2022) developed best practices for farming, harvesting, and processing Kernza® in local conditions. It produced high-quality, proximity flour and explored new food products, enhancing agricultural resilience and economic viability. Results were shared via digital platforms and a final report, supporting the integration of Kernza® into the regional agri-food chain.
