Ammonia emissions in pig farms pose serious risks to animal and human health, causing respiratory and eye irritation, and in extreme cases, lung damage or death. This project, funded by the Catalan government and led by Grup Sanement Pori, tested acid and zeolite treatments under slats to reduce ammonia emissions. Conducted from July 2020 to September 2022 in Barcelona and Girona, results varied due to environmental factors like temperature and ventilation. The initiative improved animal welfare and farm productivity, with findings shared via reports, workshops, and bulletins.
