Xylella fastidiosa is a xylem-limited plant pathogen affecting over 300 plant species, including key crops like olives, citrus, and almonds in the Balearic Islands. It causes wilting, leaf drop, and stunted growth, with no cure available. Transmission occurs primarily via insect vectors such as Philaenus spp. Infection management relies on certified planting material, waste control, and vector suppression. The pathogen has been detected on Majorca, Minorca, Ibiza, and Formentera, with regional authorities including the Direcció General d'Agricultura and local municipalities overseeing control efforts.
