Rationalization of Fungicide Use in Apple Scab Control Using Risk Prediction Models and Integrated Management

Integrated pest management for apple scab control in Girona using predictive models and sustainable practices

or

Detail description

This project, led by GIROA FRUITS SCCL and coordinated by IRTA, developed integrated strategies to manage Alternariosis in apple orchards across Girona province (2020–2022). Funded by the EAFD and Catalonia’s Department of Agriculture, it focused on reducing chemical fungicide use through a predictive risk model, resistant cultivars (e.g. ‘Doré de Bressa’), biocontrol agents (*Trichoderma* spp., *Bacillus subtilis*), and cultural practices like pruning and sanitation. The project achieved over 90% adoption across apple farms in the region, with dissemination events reaching nearly 300 stakeholders. Total budget: €117,180 (€36,107 EAFD, €47,862 DAC, €33,210 in-kind).
