Cereal-Agua Operational Group - José Mora Jordano Interview
Cereal farming innovation for sustainable landscapes and climate resilience in Spain
Detail description
Cereal-Agua is a supra-regional operational group enhancing sustainable cereal farming in Spain through landscape integration of ecological features like hedges, tree lines, and forest enclaves. Led by José Mora of INGEMA and the Royal Botanical Garden of Córdoba, the project improves ecosystem services, reduces erosion, enhances biodiversity, and mitigates climate change. Piloted with 25 farmers and organisations including ASAJA, it was implemented across Córdoba, Armuña, and Aragon irrigation communities. The initiative supports eco-scheme implementation under the 2020 CAP, using tools like LightShing to assess carbon sequestration and economic value. Funded with €499,930 (80% EAFRD co-financing), it promotes profitable, efficient, and socially integrated farming.
