MALDI BeeTyping®: Rapid Bee Health Monitoring via Molecular Fingerprinting
A molecular fingerprinting method for rapid, reliable bee health assessment using MALDI mass spectrometry
or
Detail description
A rapid, cost-effective method using MALDI BeeTyping® to assess bee health through molecular fingerprinting of haemolymph. This mass spectrometry-based technique generates individualized biometric profiles that reflect physiological state and immune response. By comparing a bee’s molecular fingerprint against a reference library of stressor-induced profiles—such as those from bacterial infection, parasitic mites, poor nutrition, or pesticide exposure—the method classifies health impact using a traffic light system: green (low), yellow (medium), or red (high). Results are delivered in under five minutes, enabling quick, reliable monitoring for beekeepers and veterinary services. The approach supports integration with additional data like viral load or chemical residue analysis, offering a comprehensive, field-ready tool for bee health assessment.
