Avocado cultivation sustainability in Europe

Promoting sustainable avocado cultivation in Southern Spain through climate-adapted agronomic practices and regional mapping

or

Detail description

This project developed a region-specific avocado cultivation manual for southern Spain and the Canary Islands, focusing on adapting South American practices to Mediterranean climates. It improved water- and energy-use efficiency by 35%, identified suitable planting zones via an agroclimatic map, and promoted sustainable production through farmer training and variety trials. Outcomes include reduced phytosanitary use and lower carbon footprints per kilogram of avocados. The manual and map are publicly accessible.
