MARLON: GM Feed Risk Monitoring in Livestock

The MARLON project, funded under the H2020 programme, develops an open-access epidemiological tool for long-term monitoring of health impacts from genetically modified feed in livestock. It addresses food safety concerns following incidents like BSE and meat fraud. The project created the IPAFEED database, offering quantitative data on animal health responses to GM feed, supporting risk assessment and early detection. It provides recommendations for risk control, long-term feeding studies, and an open platform for regulators, farmers, and food suppliers. The tool enhances surveillance effectiveness and supports evidence-based decision-making in animal feed safety.
