Reduce FCR through optimized feed formulation
Reducing feed conversion rate through optimized formulations lowers costs and environmental impact
or
Detail description
The BroilerNet project identifies and shares Good Practices to address challenges in broiler production. This practice reduces feed conversion rate (FCR) through optimized feed formulation using high-quality raw materials, lowering feed costs and resource use. A 0.1-point FCR reduction—from 1.8 to 1.7—saves raw materials and cuts carbon emissions per kg of meat. Benefits include improved growth performance, reduced feed transport emissions, and better animal welfare due to less undigested feed. Despite higher feed costs and limited protein source availability, the practice is cost-effective, with net gains of €0.17 per bird against a €0.13 cost. It is scalable across all broiler production systems, especially integrated ones.
