Manure from livestock farming, particularly chicken manure, can be diverted to biogas plants to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, especially nitrous oxide. Anaerobic digestion converts manure into heat, electricity, and a stable biofertilizer that replaces mineral fertilizers. This process lowers emissions from both manure management and fertilizer production. One ton of chicken manure can yield as much biogas as one ton of silage maize, with a market value of €35–€65 per ton. The maximum feedstock limit for chicken manure in biogas plants is 30% due to biological constraints. This approach supports climate neutrality in agriculture by valorising waste and reducing environmental impacts.
