Innovation in product, process, and marketing for local wood value addition in Catalonia

Locally sourced, sustainably managed Catalan wood with unique characteristics—such as knots, holes, and irregular shapes—is being transformed into high-value decorative boards. This innovation addresses market gaps by repurposing timber currently used for biomass or packaging, creating a niche product through research, processing, and commercialisation. The project, led by Forestal de Cataluña SCCL and partners, includes a market study, product development, and a dedicated website to connect producers with end customers.
