Root-zone biochar-based fertilizers boost white cabbage yields

Root-zone application of N-enhanced biochar boosts white cabbage yields in temperate climates

or

Detail description

Biochar-based fertilizers enhance white cabbage yields in temperate climates by improving soil fertility and carbon sequestration. A greenhouse study at Hochschule Offenburg tested N-enhanced biochar applied as a root-zone hotspot (10–15 cm below soil surface), increasing dry matter yields by 15–20% compared to controls. Results show that combining biochar with nitrogen fertilizers—especially via targeted subsurface application—boosts crop performance more effectively than uniform mixing. The study supports biochar’s role in sustainable agriculture and climate-resilient farming.
