Dutch NBS site: restoring soil fertility through nature-based solutions

Sustainable nutrient management and nature-based solutions for resilient agriculture in the Dutch NBS test site

or

Detail description

trans4num is a four-year EU-China international cooperation project funded under the Horizon Europe Zero Pollution call, focusing on advancing nature-based solutions (NBS) for sustainable nutrient management in agriculture. This factsheet highlights the Dutch NBS test site in the northern Netherlands, located within a UNESCO World Heritage site, where intensive potato and crop farming have led to soil degradation. The site explores alfalfa and grass-clover pellets, cover cropping in potato rotations, and virus suppression strategies to restore soil fertility and enhance farm resilience. The project integrates research, practice, and stakeholder engagement to support socio-ecological transformation in extensive agricultural systems. More information at http://trans4num.eu.
